Best Strategies for PTE Retell Lecture and Summarize Spoken tasks
There are strategies which assist you to solve the questions of PTE Retell lecture and summarize spoken text questions easily. In this article, we are going to share our special tips and tricks to solve these questions faster in PTE Academic Exam.
PTE Retell lecture in Speaking Module
In PTE retell lecture task you are required to re-tell the lecture in your own words after listening to or watching a video of lecture only once. There are three or four questions like this. This is an integrated task for this reason you will get marks for both speaking and listening. But the opportunity is that there are no negative marks in here. Basically, the lecture starts after three seconds. Once it ends, you will have ten seconds to prepare or organize yourself. Then they will provide you 40 seconds time to answer in where you have to record your response.
The question type might be different and tricky for several reasons like –
- You get very few time before the listening
- The speaker will be native of English Language
- The recording will not be played not more than once
- Native speakers’ pronunciation, intonation and fluency is different from us
- Video of the lecturer may confuse you
- Very less time for preparation or rehearsal
- Lecture is very informative and connotative
So, if you want to solve these tricks or complicacy easily then you should follow several strategies. We can sum up strategies into three major groups so that you can answer effectively.
Strategy # 1: Concentrate on Contents(PTE Retell Lecture)
1. First, listen the lecture very carefully
You will be provided erasable note pad before the starting of the exam so make your pen and pad ready to take notes. During taking short notes, try to take key words like noun, verb, and adjective. Do not listen the grammar words or avoid grammar words during listening. Try to understand the whole text and assume the basic trend and aim of the text. Do not memorize because it is a long text that is why it is not possible to memorize.
2. Do not infer
It is not a good idea to speak off topic. For this reason you should take short notes using symbols or short form of words and sentences. Do not assume or infer the text. Try to focus on the keywords of the speaker.
3. Analyze or compare the text
Try to find out the basic idea of the text. If you not specific enough then it is an opportunity to generalize the topic. Try to compare or analyze like the speaker does. Do not add your personal opinion.
Strategy # 2: Emphasize on pronunciation(PTE Retell Lecture)
1. First, pronounce exactly
During speaking, concentrate on your pronunciation. Do not speak faster or slower rather try to pronounce each and every word correctly. It is not a good idea to follow the accent of the native speaker.
2. Maintain intonation
Instead of following the accent of the native speaker, you should maintain your own accent. Proper stress of words as well as sentences should be applied. Focus on the perfect intonation to boost your score faster.
Strategy # 3: Keep your flow of the sentences exactly(PTE Retell Lecture)
1. First, give priority to fluency
Whatever notes you take or understand, based on that you should speak moderately. Do not hesitate in any way. Keep your flow of the sentences like the native speaker. Be natural like your mother tongue.
2. Speak phrase by phrase
Instead of speaking word by word, you should speak phrase by phrase so that it would be meaningful. You should express the mood of the sentence. Do not read only word by word rather concentrate on the chunks of words or phrases.
3. Avoid simplifications
Non native phonological simplifications are strictly prohibited for speaking section in the PTE-Academic exam. That is why avoid hesitation doing this simplification. Rather, it would be a better idea if you use transitional words or fillers.
Applicable Strategies in PTE Retell Lecture
Before sitting the real exam you should make a structure that how you are going to attend theses questions. Do not begin abruptly or end suddenly. It is not a good idea to be incomplete in answer. You should focus on topic sentence, supporting details and concluding sentence.
Do not be wordy or critical analyzer during speaking as you have very less time to give feedback. Be concise in speaking sentences. Do not be off topic or irrelevant. Try to mention the keywords which are spoken by the lecturer.
There must be a beginning middle and an end. So maintain the sequence of the text to score effectively. Do not complete the answer too early. Use your 40 seconds to answer correctly. Do not be silent for more than three seconds otherwise your microphone will be automatically off.
Summarize Spoken Text
There is no basic difference between PTE Retell lecture and summarize spoken text only the fact that for summarize spoken text you have to write the answer. In this task, you have also to hear a lecture for only once and once the audio ends, you have only 10 minutes to organize your answer. There may be 3 or four questions like this.
Applicable tips and strategies in Summarize Spoke Text
For note taking method, you should do the same which is mentioned earlier in the retell lecture content. First, it is better to spend one or two minutes reviewing your notes. Then you should organize your ideas based on your understanding of the listening text.
Do not elaborate the key words too much rather try to be precise in constructing sentences. Do not merely use the vocabulary you listen from the lecturer rather try to use exact synonym of those words. There is mark for using standard vocabulary.
Avoid silly structural mistakes and increase your grammatical range. Do not use only simple and ordinary sentences rather you should focus on using different patterns of sentences. Be careful about the spelling because more than one spelling mistakes do not carry any marks in spelling.
